Off the cuff: After Carolina barely survived Syracuse's Buddy Boeheim's threes the first time the two teams met, you'd think the Tar Heels wouldn't have allowed any uncontested threes this time. That didn't happen. Sure, he created some of the space but Carolina should know that move by now. Instead, Carolina basically lost this game at Syracuse during a two and a half minute stretch at the end of the first half as Boeheim hit three triples during an 11-0 run. Meanwhile, Carolina's sharpshooter Kerwin Walton bombed out, hitting just one of 10 shots and he was zero of seven from beyond the arc. It's sad that the game of basketball has come down to who's hot from three-point land but that was about it in this game. As Coach Williams said, especially playing against a zone you've got to hit a few shots from outside. "We made some shots at our place," he said. They didn't at Syracuse's place as the team was just four of 20 from deep and only 26 of 68 overall. And after going 27 of 30 from the free-point line against FSU, the Heels were a mere 14 of 22 against Syracuse. Carolina has little cushion now with a game against Duke and the ACC tournament a little over a week away. |
