Off the cuff:

Ohioe State 78, Tar Heels 62
UNC embarrassed at home; lose Bacot

Things went from bad to worse as North Carolina lost Armando Bacot, coming off his best game, just seven minutes into the game and then went on to its second worst loss in Smith Center history, falling to Ohio State 74-49. (12/4)

The 25-point deficit was the worst at home since a 29-point loss to Duke in 2002. It was the worst loss in Chapel Hill during the Roy Williams era "bettering" a 21-point loss to Louisville a year ago.

Carolina trailed just 16-12 when Bacot left with a turned ankle and trailed just 29-27 at the half.

But the Tar Heels went on long cold stretches in the second half and shot just over 27 percent from the floor for the game, compared to 48 percent for Ohio State.

UNC got little inside after Bacot left. His replacement, Brandon Huffman, quickly picked up three fouls. Carolina went smaller for much of the second half and was outscored 45-22.

Ohio State outscored Carolina by 20 points in the paint, 30-10.

Cole Anthony had been sick with a fever earlier in the day and with Bacot leaving (and Sterling Manley still not able to play and Leaky Black hobbled), UNC coach Roy Williams had a built-in excuse but he didn't use it.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves. Those are just excuses," Coach Williams said. "I have no answers."

He said the team made way too many fundamental mistakes adding that he dis a "sorry-ass" job of coaching.

Coach Williams did give credit to Ohio State. "We struggled shooting the ball in the hole but their defense had something to dow with that," he said.

Anthony was the only Tar Heel in double figures with 15 points but he hit only four of 15 from the floor.

No. 6 Ohio State, now 8-0, was led by Duane Washington with 18 points, including four three-pointers in the first 12 minutes of the game.

Carolina, 6-2, plays Sunday at Virginia, which was also blown out in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. No word on how long Bacot may be out but Coach Williams said he expects the big man to be "out a while."
