Off the cuff: Carolina coaches had an up and down performance but luckily for UNC the calls at the end ultimately worked. One particularly bad play call took the Heels out of reasonable field goal position late in the game. You don't take deep drops when a sack makes you have to attempt a 53-yard field goal. But subsequent quick pass patterns during the rally made up for the error and a couple of others. Coach Davis admitted at halftime that he shouldn't have called for the punt block on the play where Carolina was penalized for running into the kicker. Then, the Heels called a running play with 25 seconds left in the first half with the ball at their own 6. Greg Little was fighting for an extra yard. That's when you can have a fumble. Just take a danged knee - don't run a play and fight for yardage. That was an emotional win, especially after blowing the game against Virginia Tech. Miami was looking solid but Carolina hung tough and got consistent, confident play from Cam Sexton at QB. Radio announcer Woody Durham seemed to almost cry as he told Sexton how much he respected him for hanging in there and remaining a Tar Heel and not transferring after losing the starting position before last season. Sexton said "I love this University" and I add that it's University with a Capital U. Isn't it weird how Miami calls themselves "The U" when virtually every team has "University" in its name? I much prefer hearing "THE Ohio State University." At least that makes some sense. By the way, linemen pushing their own runner forward is supposed to be against the rules but it was done by both teams, especially No. 67 senior Tyrone Byrd for Miami - he was an unabashed expert at it. The announcers Dave Pasch and Andre Ware were scripted and seemed to have their minds made up as to what they were going to say at what portion of the game. You gotta go with the flow guys. Once, Ware had to interrupt himself talking about something besides what was going on at the field by saying, "let's take a look at the field goal here." Yeah, let's, shall we? There was so much information overload, what with tailgating information (including recipes), in-game break aways and promotion of other upcoming events. They even showed two people eating in the stands to supposedly make their point about eating at games. Of all the people eating in the stands, they chose two people who had big Barack Obama t-shirts on. Seems that even the sports media is in the tank for Obama. No emails complaining about that comment please - i don't care for McCain either but it is painfully obvious who the majority of media wants to win the election.
