Off the cuff: At this point, after a convincing yet not impressive win over an inferior Harvard team, I would normally say that teams tend to play down to their competition. But I don't think it's that. Carolina, despite getting its 10th win in the non-conference schedule, isn't playing great against anyone. The Tar Heels did look impressive against Gonzaga at home. Maybe playing up to the competition? Not sure but Carolina needs to be much more consistent. The Tar Heels have lots of guys that can score but they need to shoot better. They shot only 42 percent against Harvard. And they need to rebound better - they had a mere four-rebound edge on Harvard. They need to play better and smarter on defense and stop turning the ball over on offense. Carolina looks really good in spurts - the Heels scored 32 of their 77 points in two four-minute spans in each half. But they must get more consistent. Sterling Manley sat out the game with knee soreness but he could be ready for ACC play at Pittsburgh Saturday afternoon. |
